I am an instructor of Ambulatory Large Animal Medicine at the Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine. I have utilized the Miles Equine Gizmo (MEG) in the field for several months at the time of this writing. These hydraulically operated portable horse stocks have proven to be an invaluable teaching aid in the field. The MEG offers unequaled adjustable equine restraint in a very easily portable and professional appearing package. We have used the MEG primarily for equine dental and reproductive procedures in the field. These stocks have performed very well, allowing students to safely perform their procedures. The horses tolerate the MEG very well. In the one instance when an external stimulus startled a young horse in the stocks causing it to leap forward, the horse, the student, and the stocks all escaped without injury and the student was immediately able to resume her dental procedure.
